1. Peer Health Education recently took first place in a national PSA competition for their video on alcohol use. Booshawa!

2. We love to find the most random yet fun activities to do as an alternative to drinking on Friday night.  One of our new favorites is “planking.”  What is planking you ask? It is an activity originating in North East England consisting of lying face down in an unusual or incongruous location. The hands must touch the sides of the body and having a photograph of the participant taken and posted on the internet is an integral part of the game.  Recently one of our own managed to plank a watermelon stand in a grocery story! BOOSHAWA!

So here is a question for you, what exactly are you thinking? You are probably thinking that this is a typical house party with underage drinking. This party was anything but typical; in fact it wasn’t a party at all it was a video shoot. In an effort to educate students on what binge drinking is and the dangers associated with it, a dozen students gathered at an off campus apartment to simulate a house party. The final product was a thirty second web spot for UNK Peer Health Education’s It Ain’t Pretty Campaign. This social norms media campaign aimed at reducing binge drinking at UNK is funded by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services’ “Nebraska Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant” (SPF SIG).
