PSA Winners

An alcohol abuse prevention public service announcement (PSA) created UNK Peer Health Education students and staff recently took first place in the National Alcohol Screening Day PSA Contest, sponsored by CollegeResponse. UNK Peer Health Education program is comprised of nationally trained and certified students who educate and counsel others on the topics of alcohol, tobacco, sexual health and body image.

Not Your Typical Party

The house was filled with smoke, psychedelic lights flashing, Black Eyed Peas blaring, drinks flowing, and people grooving.  It was a great way to end last semester! So here is a question for you, what exactly are you thinking? You are probably thinking that this is a typical house party with underage drinking. This party was anything but typical; in fact it wasn’t a party at all it was a video shoot. In an effort to educate students on what binge drinking is and the dangers associated with it, a dozen students gathered at an off campus apartment to simulate a house party. The final product was a thirty second web spot for UNK Peer Health Education’s It Ain’t Pretty Campaign. This social norms media campaign aimed at reducing binge drinking at UNK is funded by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services’ “Nebraska Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant” (SPF SIG).
